Jenne’ Andrews has been heralded by Tom McGrath, Patricia Hampl, Maxine Kumin, Tom Wayman and others as a signature lyric poet. National Book Award winner Robert Bly brought out her first collection, In Pursuit of the Family, Minnesota Writers’ Publishing House, in 1974. Also in 1974 she was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Literary Fellowship and was appointed full-time Poet in Residence for the St. Paul Schools– a four-year dream job. In 1976 Ms. Magazine published a poem and The Seneca Review said, “Andrews writes like an angel,” when it took a poem. Her first book-length collection, Reunion, won the admiration of Christopher Howell, Lynx House Press, who published it in 1985 and who still teaches it. Her poems have appeared in The Ontario Review, The Colorado Review, The Lamp in the Spine, and other journals. She earned the MFA at Colorado State University–the first woman to do so, and after turning down the opportunity to take the degree at Sarah Lawrence. After several decades ranching in Colorado she returns to sing with a host of new poems termed “dazzling” and “stunning” by her readers. Reunion may be ordered from Eastern Washington State University Press. Links to a recent interview by the wonderful arts blogger and poet Maureen Doallas are available here.
